LRI’s 1.5T high field Open MRI can accommodate patients of any size or shape without sacrificing image resolution. Other open field MRI’s use low-field magnets to accommodate claustrophobic or large patients, which limits diagnostic quality. The higher the field strength, the faster the scan time and the better the quality of images produced.
LRI is at the forefront of breast diagnostic imaging and was among the first physicians in Nebraska to utilize MRI for breast imaging. LRI has performed more than 600 breast MRIs. Our experience truly makes a difference in detecting and diagnosing breast abnormalities. Our 1.5T Espree Open MRI utilizes bilateral 7 channel breast coils, which allows excellent visualization of both breasts simultaneously while maintaining patient comfort and convenience.
2.3 feet diameter opening allows for ample free space
around the patient’s head.
Over 60% of other exams are completed with the
patient’s head outside the scanner.

How is it performed?
Do not wear clothing with metal parts, such as buttons and zippers. You will be asked to change into the provided gown attire. The LRI technologist will escort you into the MRI area and will position you to ensure you are comfortable on the table. You will be positioned inside a magnet.
There is direct voice communication for you to contact the LRI technologist at all times. The LRI technologist will be able to see you at all times during the procedure.
How long will the exam take?
The average examination time is 30 minutes.
What if I am claustrophobic?
If you have experienced anxiety with a prior MRI study or feel uneasy in narrow spaces, please contact your physician or LRI to discuss obtaining a prescription for a medicine to relieve anxiety. We also recommend a driver to drive you to and from your appointment.
When can my physician expect my results?
The LRI board certified radiologist will study the images and provide a written report which includes a description of the findings. Our reports are available within 24 hours of the completion of the exam. Your physician will receive the results within 24 hours. The report could take longer if we are waiting for studies from an outside facility for comparison. If the results are urgent your physician may acquire a preliminary report by phone or fax.
